Hi Debbie! Welcome to planDisney! I’m so glad you stopped by with this thoughtful question. As a fellow
Magic Key holder, I completely understand wanting to be crystal clear on how those dates work so you can plan your Disneyland visits with confidence.
If you allow your Magic Key to expire and later decide to purchase a new one (subject to availability), the expiration date of that new pass will be one year from the first day it is used. “First use” means the first time it is scanned for entry into
Disneyland Park or
Disney California Adventure Park, or when it is scanned for a fully paid entry at a pay-on-entry parking location at the Disneyland Resort. So if you purchase the pass but wait a bit before visiting, your year won’t begin until that first scan.
To confirm the exact expiration date of your current Magic Key or a newly purchased one, you can check directly on the Disneyland website. Hover over the “Magic Key” tab and choose “
Renew Magic Key Passes.” Once logged in, you’ll see your pass details listed, including your expiration date. It’s a quick way to double-check your timeline before making any decisions.
You’ll also have a 30-day renewal window before your current pass expires. During that time, you can renew at your current Key level or switch to a different tier at the current price. While you certainly have the option to let your pass expire and purchase again later, Magic Keys can sell out, and specific levels may not be available. If keeping your current Key tier is important to you, renewing early in that window can offer a little extra peace of mind.
Debbie, I hope this helps you map out your next steps. If you need any tips for making the most of your next Magic Key year (whether it includes sunset strolls down
Main Street, U.S.A. or dropping in on
Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!), we’d love to see you back at planDisney.
Wishing you a year ahead filled with magic and memorable moments,
David
