I got a magic band + and connected it to my account, but my wife was reading that it should actually be connected to her account and I am not seeing a way for me to disconnect it from mine (only deactivate it).

Welcome to planDisney, Eric! Getting your MagicBand+ connected to the right account can feel a little tricky at first, but I’m happy to help guide you through it.

At the Disneyland Resort, it’s completely up to you which MyDisney account you link a MagicBand+ to. For example, my MagicBand+ is linked to my own account, while my wife’s band is linked to hers. I also manage my daughters’ bands through my account. The key is making sure each band is linked to a valid theme park ticket or Magic Key. That’s what unlocks all the magic!

If you'd like to disconnect a MagicBand+ from your account and connect it to your wife's instead, start by opening the Disneyland app and logging into your MyDisney account. Tap the menu (≡) icon, scroll to the "Account" section, and select “MagicBand+.” Tap on the image of the MagicBand+ you want to unlink, scroll to the bottom, and tap the “Unlink” button.

To link it to your wife’s account, open the Disneyland app on her mobile device. Tap the menu icon again, scroll down to “MagicBand+,” and tap the blue plus (+) sign in the upper right corner. Follow the prompts to add the band and assign it to a specific ticket. Once that’s done, voilà! The MagicBand+ is ready for magic.

No matter which account it’s linked to, MagicBand+ adds an extra dose of fun to your visit. Bands can light up and vibrate during nighttime spectaculars like World of Color Happiness!, and select attractions like Haunted Mansion. Over in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, you can use MagicBand+ to play Batuu Bounty Hunters, a hands-on scavenger hunt in Black Spire Outpost. One of my favorite Disney birthdays was spent chasing down bounties and leveling up my rank! Here’s a Q-Tip from that day: keep an eye out for glowing door panels and unusual sounds. They’re clues that your target might be nearby.

While MagicBand+ isn’t required, it definitely adds a fun, interactive twist to your day at the parks. If you have more questions as you plan your trip, we’d love to hear from you again at planDisney.

    Have an amazing visit, Eric!
