Is the Luau at the Polynesian worth the cost? Or is there a better choice for dinner and entertainment? My husband I will be traveling with our two teenage sons (16 & 13) in January.

    Hi Lisa,

To be perfectly honest, I'm not a fan of the luau, particularly for teenage boys. In my opinion, the show is repetitive and silly. The first time you see a Polynesian dance, it's entertaining, the sixth time you see a similar dance, you're ready to move on. If you had young girls that were studying dance, I might tell you to go to the show, but with older boys, I think they'll get bored quickly. Also, there is much better food to be had at dozens of other Walt Disney World restaurants. I hate to be so negative, but this is one of the very few WDW experiences that I think are just not worth the money.

If you're looking for a great show, try the Hoop Dee Doo Revue at Fort Wilderness. The food is delish and the show is a real hoot. I love it, my parents love it, my teenagers love it. It truly does appeal to all ages. Another nice option would be dinner at any Downtown Disney restaurant and tickets to the Cirque du Soleil show - AMAZING!

If you're a family of foodies, you might also consider splurging for a gourmet meal at the posh Victoria & Albert's restaurant. This is available only to guests with children ages 10 and up. You can read about my family's fabulous experience there on the independent website DisneyFoodBlog.com. (Search for the Victoria & Albert's Chef's Table Review dated 2/28/10.) The cost of this is not much more than the luau, but the experience is infinitely more memorable.

Good luck with your planning. Please let us know what else we can do to help.
