Looking at ways to help with budget. Can we bring food and drink with us into the parks or are there picnic areas outside if we leave coolers in the car?

    Hiya Crystan,

Welcome to planDisney. As much as I love a Walt Disney World Resort vacation, I completely understand how costly it can be. As a family of six, we are always looking for the best way to save for our next Disney adventure and most importantly, how to stay on budget when we are in the middle of the magic.

Setting a budget from the start will help you decide when to visit, which Disney Resorts Collection hotel to select, the ticket options that will work best for your plans and even what dining choices to make. My boys are no longer little kids and they can definitely eat, so food costs are a big part of our expense while on vacation. It is important for me to find a way to prevent a "rumbly in their tumbly" without spending a fortune on lunch. While there are no picnic areas outside the theme parks, the good news is you can absolutely bring food and nonalcoholic beverages into the theme parks. There are a few restrictions which includes no glass containers and the food cannot require re-heating or refrigeration. Additionally there are Property Rules regarding the cooler or bag that you are using which states the bag cannot be larger than 24" long x 15" wide x 18" high. Loose or dry ice is not permitted, otherwise, you are free to bring sandwiches, fruit, chips, water and more into the park.

We have found that carrying small snacks seem to work best as we typically feel up to a full meal and prefer to munch on items throughout the day. Great choices are often nuts, granola bars, sandwiches cut into small squares and fruit. Remember, the Florida days can get quite hot so be sure your food options will hold up in the heat. A couple more quick tips - bring a non-breakable water bottle for everyone as you will be able to refill these at stations or by obtaining complimentary cups of water at most counter service locations. And, don't forget the importance of breakfast. You can fuel up in your hotel room with muffins, fruit, yogurt or cereal before starting the day.

I hope this helps with your budgeting. If I can help with any additional planning information, please stop back and see me.

Hope to see ya real soon,
    Margaret
