We are looking to travel from UK to WDW for my daughters first Disney trip (it'll be her 6th birthday while we are there ) in 2018, looking at staying at either POR or Contemporary, I was wondering what makes Contemporary so much "better" ? Is it

    Hello, Lindsay!

It sounds like you have a tough decision to make. You've selected some really great Disney Resort hotels for your upcoming vacation! I am happy to help you find the right resort for your daughter's birthday celebration by providing you with details about each resort that you've selected.

Disney's Contemporary Resort is in the Deluxe Resort Category. It offers a nice white-sand beach with a view of the Electrical Water Pageant. The Monorail makes a stop inside of the resort, making this a convenient location for guests that plan to explore Magic Kingdom Park and the Deluxe Resorts situated along the monorail. It is also the home of Chef Mickey's, a great character dining experience for families with young children. Guests of this resort can enjoy room service at any time of the day or night.

Disney's Port Orleans Resorts are in the Moderate Resort Category, and both offer bus or boat transportation to other Walt Disney World destinations. Both resorts also offer horse-drawn carriage rides for a fee. Neither of these resorts offer on-site character dining options or monorail transportation to the theme parks, but they do have other benefits. Disney's Port Orleans Resort - Riverside offers 6 swimming pools to choose from, which is more than Disney's Contemporary Resort (2 pools) and Disney's Port Orleans Resort - French Quarter (1 pool) combined.

I don't know if one of these resorts are "better" than another, at least not objectively. Like most things in life, it all comes down to personal preference. You can view up to 4 Disney Resort hotels side-by-side on this hotel comparison tool, so I recommend looking over the options before you book your vacation. Whichever resort you choose, I am sure your daughter will enjoy her special birthday celebration! If you have any additional questions before your trip, please feel free to stop back by the Moms Panel. Happy planning!
