Looking for special detailed hints on how to make the most of our 7day W.Caribbean cruise on/ off the ship (June 2014).My hubs and I will be traveling w/our youngest son who will be 8. Any tips on ways to have an extra special trip!

    Hi Julie!
I also have an eight year old son who loves to cruise so I'm glad you asked this question!
My first tip is to start counting down your trip 50 days out. You can make a  chain out of construction paper or use a calendar to X off days which is a great build-up to the big day. Also, check out the Gifts and Amenities Section on the Disney Cruise Line website to purchase a Disney Cruise Line themed gift or a Celebration Package for an added surprise once you board.  One of my son's favorite souvenirs from our past sailing is his pillowcase which is signed by all his favorite characters. Guests can bring two items onboard (photo mats, Vinylmations, ornaments, tote bags, t-shirts, etc) to leave at Guest Services to have signed. if you decide to do this be sure to place your items in a plastic bag with permanent markers labeled with your last name and stateroom number.
One activity my son loves on the Disney Fantasy is visiting the Pirate's League to be transformed into a buccaneer for all the Pirate Night festivities!  Reservations can be made online 75 days before sailing for first-time cruisers or 120 day for Concierge Guests. You will want to plan a few special adventures ashore which can also be booked online 75 days out.  A dolphin adventure or visit to Stingray City in Grand Cayman are fantastic options for young boys!  On Castaway Cay, you can snorkel, rent bikes, and float around in the beautiful waters with the Getaway Package!
My final tip is to be sure to bring along a highlighter because there will be so much to experience on this amazing vessel!  Each evening you will receive a newsletter, the Personal Navigator with all the activities listed for the next day.  Have your son mark his top picks so he doesn't miss out on any of the fun!  My son's favorites are the Piston Cup, GAGA ball, and Super Sloppy Science!
I'm about out of room, Julie! Please write back if I can help further!
