I am looking to sign up for the Dopey Challenge January 2020, but am concerned that I won't be able due to the expo hours for the 5k and travel time from Maine. I teach and have a limited number of personal days. Are there options?

Hi Erin! Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel.

The Dopey Challenge is indeed an ambitious undertaking, and I totally admire your desire to conquer 48.6 miles in four days! Since the official runDisney policy requires you to pick up your own race bib, shirt and gEAR bag from the runDisney Health & Fitness Expo, you'll want to arrive in Orlando with enough time to get to the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex prior to its closing on the Wednesday night before the 5K. This will probably mean you'll need to miss at least three consecutive days of school. As a teacher myself, I know how hard it can be to arrange leave for that much time; but with a 5:30 a.m. start time for the 5K, you'll want to be there in plenty of time to pick up your gEAR the day before and also make sure you can get some good sleep prior to your 3 a.m. alarm (especially if you'll be waking up that early four days in a row)!

If missing three days of school isn't in the cards for you, consider Goofy's Race and a Half Challenge instead. This Challenge combines Saturday's Half Marathon and Sunday's Marathon, so you could arrive with enough time to pick up your packet Friday. After Sunday's race you can catch a late afternoon flight home and be back at school on Monday morning (although you might be a little tuckered out)!

There really is nothing like a runDisney race--from the Kids Races to the Dopey Challenge and everything in between. If you decide to tackle one of the Challenges, please let us know if we can answer any other questions for you about your trip to the Most Magical Race on Earth.
