Welcome to planDisney, Barbara! Happy New Year! Your family will be ringing in 2025 at the
Most Magical Place on Earth, so let's look at accommodations for your stay. Maybe we can help you have a magic carpet ride.
You're observant to notice that most
Disney Resort hotel rooms have switched to wood-like flooring. My theory is that it's easier to clean and disinfect than carpet, but I agree that rugs can make a space feel more cozy and comfortable.
I chatted with a wish-granting Cast Member who said decor and flooring can vary by resort and room type. He recommended you call the
Disney Resort Hotel Reservation line for specific information about flooring and other amenities. You might also mention your son's situation to see if an
accessible room would be a good choice.
You can also view photos of room types online by selecting the "Room Rates" option for each resort. Look for the "View Photos" link to swipe through current images for different room categories.
For example, a quick look at Disney's Port Orleans Resort—Riverside shows carpeting in the
Royal Guest Rooms, but those are popular and could be sold out for your dates. I also noticed area rugs in many rooms at
Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, but the price point might not be what you're looking for.
The most reasonably priced resorts have been updated to solid-surface flooring, but be sure to ask when you call.
Disney's All-Star Sports Resort had carpeting a couple of years ago, but I think all room categories now have laminate floors.
The advantage of solid flooring is that you'll know it's sparkling clean for your son. When my son was younger, I remember bringing a yoga mat along on trips, and knee pads might also be an option for extra padding.
Barbara, I hope your visit will be a whole new world of magic for your family. Please stop by
planDisney anytime. You ain't never had a friend like me!
Magic awaits,
Elaine
