Hey Howdy Hey Cyndi,
Welcome back to planDisney! One of our favorite parts of planning our next
Walt Disney World Resort vacation is selecting which restaurants we would like to eat at. There are so many fantastic options, each with their own unique themes and delicious menus, that it is often hard to trim down our list. One of our biggest challenges is choosing between our old favorites or venturing out to try a new location.
One option that always makes it on our must-do dining locations is the
Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater located at
Disney's Hollywood Studios. This quirky drive-in theater (otherwise known as a restaurant) invites Guests to step back to the 50's and enjoy a meal in a convertible "table" while enjoying sci-fi movie clips while your car hop serves you yummy food and beverage options (the milkshakes are delicious). While the restaurant does show sci-fi clips on a large oversized movie screen, these offerings are old monster and horror movies and are quite hokey. There is no blood and the technology was quite tame so most of the clips will probably look like people in bad costumes. Additionally, since it is clips, and especially since this is Disney, they have done a great job pulling out the mildest portions for the reel. There are also a number of cartoons and animated commercials inviting you to visit the "concession stand". Overall, the reel is quite funny and corny.
We have been dining here for over twenty five years and my boys were never once frightened and actually found the entire experience really "cool". Come to think of it, I cannot think of any time that I have seen a family leave because their child was frightened. I think you all would have a great time and highly recommend the restaurant! Quick tip - you will want to make sure you give the kids the driver seat and front row. Not only will they enjoy the interaction with the car hop as they are questioned about their "driving age", it will be easier for them to see the movie screen from the front of the car.
Don't forget to make an advanced dining reservation - this is an extremely popular place to dine and walk up options are often very hard to come by. If I can help with any additional planning questions, please stop back and
see me.
With pixie dust,
Margaret
