Looking to go to WDW the last week of October and the first week of November. How are the crowds? Also, I have stayed in the Contemporary twice and I know there has been some remodeling going on. Is this a problem for guests?

Late October and early November are among the least crowded times at Disney World. The weather is usually fine then as well. You've picked a great time for your trip!

There is quite a lot going on at the Contemporary these days. One of the Garden Wings of the hotel was demolished this year and many of the restaurants and shops are being moved or refurbished. When I was at WDW in December, there were giant construction cranes towering over the resort. Many, but not all, of the changes at the resort are projected to be completed this summer. Guests staying at the Contemporary will still have a great stay, but right now it wouldn't be my first choice hotel. If you're set on staying in a monorail resort, I might try the Polynesian. The Wilderness Lodge is also quite near the Magic Kingdom and features beautiful scenery and several great restaurants.
