We are looking forward to our first stay at The Cabins at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort! I do not see a gym and treadmills that are available at our other DVC properties, are we able to use the gym at a neighboring resort?

Hi Marguerite, welcome home and welcome back to planDisney! I’m excited for you and your upcoming stay at the Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort! Our family stayed there shortly after its conversion to a new Disney Vacation Club Resort and we were impressed. I also love your commitment to fitness while on a Disney vacation! Like you, my workouts don’t take a pause when I’m on vacation, so let’s race over to your question and get you on your way, especially since you’ll be arriving shortly!

Marguerite, you’re correct that Fort Wilderness currently does not have a fitness center or treadmills as amenities. Unfortunately, you will not be able to use the fitness centers at any of the neighboring Resort hotels that have fitness centers, as only guests of those Resorts are permitted to use them. But don’t fret! Here’s a couple options for you to get that workout in during your upcoming stay:

    • Fort Wilderness Resort boasts miles and miles of jogging trails for you to get any kind of run in whether it’s a long run, a sprint, or a nice easy jog. During a previous stay at the Fort Wilderness Cabins, I was training for a marathon and could easily fit 5 to 7 mile runs on the various trails.
    • The spacious living room within your Cabin and the private deck outdoors are perfect spots for any calisthenics or body weight workouts. My fellow panelist Susan noted that she likes bringing a travel yoga mat to practice her yoga poses during her stays at the Resort. You could also bring along some resistance bands to build up strength as well!
    • Lastly, Fort Wilderness also offers many different recreational activities and rentals to get that heart rate up! You can rent bikes to traverse the miles of trails or rent kayaks and canoes to paddle along the lakes and waterways at the Resort. There’s also volleyball and basketball courts with complimentary balls available for each sport.
Marguerite, I hope you find this information helpful and wishing you safe travels and a fun vacation. Also, don’t forget to treat yourself to a Mickey-shaped pretzel or ice cream bar, because with all of these exercise options at your disposal, you’ll have earned it! If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact me or my fellow panelists here at planDisney!
