We're looking at going to Disney the first week in July. Is this a busy time for them? Or will the crowds be smaller?

Hey Brenda!  Thanks for the great question!  Remember that any time school is out, WDW is probably going to be crowded.  July is considered peak season and is one of the most crowded times of the year, but with that said .... I have been that week and found the crowds to be extremely manageable!
It was actually much more crowded the week of Spring Break in April than it was on the 4th of July.  If you choose this week, look at going to parks which don't have EMH, these tend to be more crowded, and remember Monday's are typically considered one of the busiest days at MK.  Also on the 4th of July, select your park for the day and don't leave.  On holidays parks can hit maximum capacity and if you leave, there is a chance you might not get back in the park.
I hope this helps and that you have a wonderful WDW vacation in July!  Thanks for coming to the Mom's Panel and Happy New Year.
