Hi I am looking to book a cruise. At the time of the cruise my kids will be 12 and 10 ( almost 11 ) can they go to the same kids hangout club?

    Hiya, Raquel!

It sounds like your young Mouseketeers are probably pretty close. I'm sure they are going to love spending time together on the Disney cruise you are planning to book. I know our children have bonded and made lasting memories together during our family's many Disney cruises. They are family experiences that I wouldn't trade for anything.

As you have discovered, Disney's Oceaneer Club and Disney's Oceaneer Lab are designed for children ages 3 through 10 years old. Edge is for tweens and early teens ages 11 through 14 years old. Along with Vibe, which is for teens ages 14 through 17 years old, all of the Disney Cruise Line youth clubs offer innovative and engaging activities tailored especially to the interests and abilities of their respective age groups. When a club is operating in its reserved programming mode, only children registered in that club are permitted in the spaces secured for that programming. This helps keep things structured and consistent so that all parents with children registered in a club will feel comfortable knowing the exact ranges of ages their children will interact with in that club.

During some of our first Disney cruises, when our four children were registered in three different clubs, my wife and I worried they might feel lonely without each other's company. We were soon pleasantly surprised that even our seemingly shy children made fast friends with other children their age. With or without specific friends, they ended up finding that time in their clubs was even more fun than hanging out with Mom and Dad. While I may have felt slightly offended by that, at least my wife and I were able to enjoy the many adult-only spaces in the ships that much more.

Another aspect of the different age levels of the youth clubs that I liked was that our children who were registered in different clubs could become the "expert" about their assigned clubs. When it came time for all or a part of a club to welcome any Guests for an open house, our child registered with that club could become the master storyteller to their siblings and share the magic of the specific activities and features of their club. Being able to watch our children explore and share with each other, taking turns being the guide to the rest of the family, was another unique aspect of the Disney Cruise Line that has made our Disney cruises some of our best and most memorable family vacations.

As you contemplate which Disney Cruise Line itinerary to choose for your next big family vacation, I imagine you will also look forward to the fun new ways your children will play, learn, and grow together. Some of my favorite family conversations have been during our evening Rotational Dining on Disney cruises. Besides reviewing and sharing portions of the different menu items we order, we enjoy sharing stories about the fun things we experienced in our separate activities throughout the day. It's the sort of thing that keeps us going back to Where Magic Meets the Sea over and over.

    Have a magical cruise, Raquel!
