How long does it take to disembark? I’ll be going on the Disney dream in early September in and out of Southampton, England. I want to plan the train trip back to London at a reasonable time.

    Ahoy there, Mallory,

Welcome aboard planDisney! You must be so excited to have a Disney Cruise Line vacation aboard the Disney Dream on the horizon!

Usually, the last day of a cruise is so sad, but it sounds like you might be spending some time in London following your cruise, so will make your disembarkation day a little easier, I hope.

The time it takes to disembark the ship depends on how you like to approach your morning.  No matter how you decided to spend the morning, you will be asked to be out of your stateroom by 8:00 a.m. on disembarkation day so the Crew can begin preparing the staterooms for the next cruise.

So, let’s think through a few things. You may opt to place your luggage outside your stateroom on the last night of the cruise, usually between 8:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m., for delivery to the ship's terminal the following morning. If you select this option, allow time to locate your luggage in the Luggage Hall as you debark and wait for the “All Clear” to be called for your group. If you would rather get on your way, opt for Express Walk-Off, which allows you to keep your luggage with you and debark as soon as the ship is cleared by port authorities. If you choose this option, you can debark the ship as early as 8:00 a.m., but this is subject to change. Keep in mind that you may need to clear customs upon debarkation, so allow time for that process if that is the case. Mallory, from what I can see, the central train station in Southampton is about two miles from Southampton Port, so factor that transfer into your plans

Finally, and one of my best tips for your saying farewell to your ship, is to consider how you want to spend your last moments aboard the ship. Personally, I prefer one last magical meal by eating a sit-down breakfast on the ship. Now, the time and place of your breakfast will depend on your rotational dining schedule, so check your Disney Cruise Line Navigator App once on board for details. The Main Dining debark breakfast start time usually ranges between 6:30 - 7:15 a.m. The Second Dining debark breakfast start time is usually between 7:45 - 8:30 a.m. Typically, as long as you have vacated your stateroom, you can arrive for breakfast at any time during the schedule and enjoy your breakfast.

After breakfast, I usually linger for a moment to take a few last photos in the main lobby and use the restroom before debarking. Itineraries vary, so keep an ear out for the actual debarkation announcements on your particular sailing.

Mallory, I know this is a lot of information, but I hope this overview has been helpful as you plan your train reservations. Please sail back by if you have any other questions or would like some tips for making the most of your Disney Cruise Line vacation. Our planDisney cruise specialists, Tracie and Adrianna, know all the ropes!

    Cheerio and many magical memories,
    Shannon
