Hi Jessica!
Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! We are also a family of six and visiting the Walt Disney World Resort on a budget is manageable with the right strategy.
First, resort! We absolutely loved the family suite at Disney's Art of Animation Resort. It sleeps six (one queen bed and two full-sized beds) plus it has two bathrooms, which makes getting ready for the day much easier! Even better, you have the advantage of the amazing Walt Disney World Transportation system, which we loved. Even though we had our car there, we always took the bus because it was so convenient. If you would like something a little more luxurious, there are moderate and deluxe suite options available that can sleep six.
Next, dining! There are dining options for all price points at the Walt Disney World Resort. Should you stay in a suite at the Art of Animation, you will have a mini fridge in your room, which can make dining less expensive. A car trip to a local supermarket or a visit from the Garden Grocer (www.gardengrocer.com-copy and paste into your browser) can reduce your overall dining cost by allowing you to enjoy breakfast in your room and letting you pack your own snacks. Counter service restaurants will be your least expensive option for dining and you can share meals so you only buy what you need.
For a splurge, I'll suggest my favorite (and coincidentally least expensive) buffet option:
Trail's End Restaurant. This restaurant never fails to satisfy the pickiest eater in my family and always delivers excellent food and impeccable service. My kids beg to come back to this place! I do recommend Advanced Dining Reservations for all Table Service restaurants to ensure there is room for your entire party.
Come back and see us if you have any additional planning questions!!
Best Wishes,
Amy B.
