I know it rains alot in FL. we will be there May17-22. My question is what makes them close rides down during rain? Are there certain rides that tend to close over others? Hoping to get a idea before we go so we can avoid going to ones that would closed.

    Hi Nicole,
I've lived in Florida for more than 30 years and you're right, it does rain quite often here, particularly in the summertime! Oftentimes, it's not the rain that closes the rides down-it's thunder and lightning. Those are safety hazards and Disney puts the safety of its guests above everything else. Any rides that are out in the open and uncovered are subject to weather-related closures. The ones I can think of from my own experience include (but are certainly not limited to) the following:

Magic Kingdom: Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Splash Mountain, Astro Orbiter, Casey Jr. Splash and Soak Station, Dumbo the Flying Elephant, The Magic Carpets of Aladdin, Tom Sawyer Island, Tomorrowland Speedway, The Barnstormer and Seven Dwarves Mine Train.

    Epcot: Test Track.

Disney's Hollywood Studios: Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular, Jedi Training Academy, Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show and Fantasmic.

Disney's Animal Kingdom: Kilimanjaro Safaris, Expedition Everest, Kali River Rapids, Primeval Whirl and TriceraTop Spin.

My suggestions for beating the rain? Bring your own rain jacket or poncho and carry a pair of flip flops and a hand towel with you just in case it rains. Each of our four kids has their own drawstring backpack and they carry their jacket and flip flops in case of rain, plus a few snacks for hungry moments while standing in line.

Here's to hoping you don't get rained out while on vacation!!

    Best Wishes,
    Amy B.
