I know that on a base ticket that you can only go to one park a day but with that ticket can you leave and come back? If my kids don't get a nap in the middle of the day then there is no way that they will be able to stay awake for fireworks.

Hi, Tiffany! Yes, you absolutely CAN leave and re-enter the same park on the same day without a Park Hopper Pass.  The first park you enter that day will be the only one you can visit, but you may enter and leave that park as often as you would like that day.  Happy planning and have a Magical vacation!
