Hello Maria!
This is a great question! I also knit and crochet, and I know I like to bring my latest project all kinds of places with me. In fact, after helping Guests with their questions today, I am working on a lovely sweater for myself I hope to finish before it gets too cold here in Indiana. I have never brought my knitting into the park with me, however. I’m usually too busy enjoying the atmosphere and wrangling the kids!
There is not an official ban on knitting needles or crochet hooks in the parks, and they are not on the
list of prohibited items. I have seen other Guests knitting in the parks from time to time. There is a clause however about “objects or toys that appear to be firearms or weapons.” This means that you could be at the mercy of security when checking your bag, but for the most part, I think you would be safe. I would recommend bamboo or plastic needles rather than long medal ones, and a small project started on the needles would show security that you really are using them. I much prefer knitting in the round with bamboo needles anyway, as it is more portable and easier on the hands. Round needles would be less obtrusive to other Guests if you were knitting in line or on a public bench. On the odd chance that security did not wish to allow your project into the park, I would bring something small and designed to keep you busy, rather than an expensive or especially precious project, in case you had to discard it. Maybe socks or a hat would be a good idea.
Wishing you happy crafting and a magical visit to the Walt Disney World Resort!
