While the official currency in
Cozumel is the peso, U.S. dollars and credit cards are widely accepted. When my family went to Cozumel, I was worried about not having any pesos to tip our tour guide, but he happily accepted our U.S. dollars.
You can exchange money at the Fort Lauderdale Airport currency exchange in Terminal 3. Another option is to use an ATM when you disembark in Cozumel. The ones connected to a bank usually offer the best exchange rate.
