Hey, Lesley! Pressed coins are a wonderful keepsake and Walt Disney World Resort offers so many opportunities all across the Resort to make these little souvenirs. Coin press machines can be found at every theme park, the
water parks,
Disney Springs, many of the
Disney Resort Hotels, and other locations. Many of them are themed to the area within which they are found, so guests often press a coin to remember things like a first thrill ride or their first stay at a specific resort.
The amount of and look of the pressed coins that can be made at each location change often. Most of the machines press either pennies or quarters, but be on the lookout for a few special pressed dime machines! To find the current location of each machine, check the
Coin Press Machines page, which features an interactive map. There are also some great websites out there that do a great job of keeping up with the current coin availability.
When using the coin press machines, you will need to supply your own coin in addition to the money needed to purchase it. I have a few quick tips to share with you to make the most of this fun Disney tradition.
- Use older pennies (pre-1982) if you can. The older pennies do not include zinc, which can cause silver-colored streaking in the copper.
- Clean your coins before leaving home using a cleaning product like either silver cleaner or vinegar. This will make them a great-looking finished product.
- Store your coins for pressing separately in a plastic bag or plastic mini-M & M’s canisters.
Thanks so much for stopping by with your question and please let us know if you have any others as you continue to plan your pixie-dusted adventures!
