Hi Payal,
When you hear the words "rope drop" spoken among Disney regulars, all they're referring to is the opening of the theme park. While actual ropes may or may not be used, the phrase came about from the idea that there were ropes blocking Guests from entering the theme parks until the magical moment when the park opened and the ropes would drop. However, if ropes
are used, they aren't dropped for Guests to step over; they are wound up and removed from one side to the other.
Arriving at a theme park for "rope drop" is a great way to start a magical Disney day! You may find opening times for each theme park by visiting the
park hours calendar. I recommend getting to the theme park at least 30-45 minutes ahead of the park opening so that you will have plenty of time to go through security and ticketing and will be able to be among the first Guests into the theme park. What's the biggest benefit to this? Besides being able to enjoy every possible
minute of fun at the most magical place on earth, you'll find the lowest crowds of the day first thing in the morning. My family has found that by being there for "rope drop," we can experience several attractions with very little waiting! Plus, you'll find a wonderful opening show at Magic Kingdom Park called
Let the Magic Begin that usually runs right before the park opens. It's full of fanfare and is the perfect start to a day full of magic and fun!
Thanks so much for visiting us at the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Payal, and please let us know if you have any other questions as you're planning for your trip. I hope that you have a truly magical vacation!
