A big hello to you Samantha! Thanks for writing. I must admit that I haven't driven to Florida since I was a teenager and made the trek with my parents. I would love to do it again, but would not brave the 1,400+ miles without another driver! I'm not sure what the cost would be, but traditionally gas prices are significantly less once you cross the border to the USA.
According to
MapQuest, the drive is approximately 1,500 miles (2,400 km) and would take about 25 hours. That's three full eight-hour days. I highly recommend starting by checking out MapQuest to plan your route. You can easily plot your vacation, including sightseeing spots. Here are a few of my favourites:
- Hershey, Pennsylvania, where you have to visit the infamous chocolate factory.
- We always spent one full day touring Washington, DC, although your daughter might be a bit young for that.
- Richmond, Virginia is a lovely spot to stop, and if the timing works, spend the night.
- Georgia was always a family favourite - we'd come home with pecans for everyone!
- St. Augustine, Florida, the oldest American city, was a must for our family.
- Driving on the beach at Daytona was always exciting.
Those are just a few of my favourite memories. If you're a member of CAA, be sure to get one of their detailed TripTiks, which are easy to follow. There is so much to see along the East Coast, so be sure to stop when you see something of interest. Be sure to bring lots of toys, travel games and a portable DVD player if you've got one to keep your little girl occupied.
I'm sure you'll have a fantastic vacation however you get there Samantha! Please write back if you have any other questions!
