I've been all over the internet, but I can't figure out what the fish extender is for.. I know it goes on the fish outside the staterooms, but why?

Welcome back, Lauryn! Sailing with Disney Cruise Line is a treat in itself, but some guests like to add a little bit of extra magic to their sailings when they meet up online with other guests on their sailing and plan gift exchanges.

The DisBoards are the biggest group of Disney Cruise Line fans that tend to organize these little gift exchanges called Fish Extender Exchanges. There is a fish clip outside each stateroom door, and it is there that some guests will hang fabric pockets (to "extend" their fish clip) in which they exchange gifts with other guests. This is not something Disney Cruise Line sponsors, but something guests come up with on their own on online forums before setting sail. Check out www.disboards.com.

Since each group of guests is different, those on the forums for each sailing tend to come up with their own rules about the exchanges. Normally, you'll find your particular sailing's forum online then chat with other guests who will be onboard too. Someone suggests the exchange and offers to make a list of those participating. You'll then get their stateroom numbers so you can plan a little gift for each and drop it in their Fish Extender when you're onboard. My kids love to do this and love coming back to their stateroom each day to find surprises from other guests waiting for them!

On the DisBoards, click on Disney Cruise Line tab at the top. Then, click on the Forums Tab on the top middle toward the right. Then, scroll down and choose Disney Cruise Line Meets. Scroll down again and choose the ship and sailing year. Then, you'll see a list of each sailing and you can choose your particular one to begin chatting with fellow cruisers on your sailing.

Have fun as you plan your cruise, Lauryn!
