Greetings, Tristen, and welcome to planDisney! You've come to the right place – I'm a Magic Key holder and can tell you all about how the pass works. Let's jump in!
The
Magic Key annual pass is valid for a 12-month period. During that time, there may be blockout dates when the pass can't be used – that varies by pass type. However, you can
make reservations for any available day, allowing you to visit multiple times. I live locally and went probably 40 times last year! So many happy memories were made through visits with my family, time with friends, and even solo days.
There are currently four tiers of
Magic Key passes. In general, the higher the tier, the more flexibility you'll have, with fewer blockout dates, the ability to hold more theme park reservations at a time, and better parking benefits. Which Magic Key pass you choose depends on how often and when you plan to visit, and how much flexibility you'd like in making theme park reservations. Take a look at the
Park Reservation Availability Calendar – you can select a pass to see the blockout dates (indicated with a slash).
I can say that, between my family and friends, I know people with each pass level, and everyone is happy with the one they have. The way the passes are broken out really lets you choose the one that best suits your plans.
Aside from reservation-based admission, Magic Keys provide other benefits, too, which currently include:
- The ability to park hop (visit both parks on the same day with a valid reservation)
- Discounts at select dining and merchandise locations
- A discount on the Lightning Lane Multi Pass
- A discount on standard theme park parking (or included with the Inspire Key)
- The ability to dine at Magic Key Terrace inside California Adventure (home to one of my favorite salads)
- Periodic special experiences and extras
As long as you can plan out your visits and secure your theme park reservations (which can be done on the
Disneyland Resort website or the
Disneyland mobile app), you'll be good to go. It's also easy to cancel or modify your reservations if needed (you have until 11:59 p.m. the day before to make adjustments).
Check out the
How to Guide on the website for step-by-step instructions on how to purchase your pass.
Tristen, there's something special about visiting the Disneyland Resort while knowing you have more trips on the horizon. That's the beauty of the Magic Key pass. If you think of any other questions as you weigh your options, please reach out. You can even
send me another question directly if you'd like more guidance about Magic Key passes or visiting the Resort. Thanks for stopping by!
Your pal,
Kriss
