Howdy, Chip! Thanks for stopping by planDisney. I'm excited about your upcoming
Walt Disney World Resort visit, but I'm sorry for your injury. Since you're arriving soon, let's jump - or limp - into visiting the parks in a boot.
A few years ago, I was in a similar situation when I injured my ankle on a hike. I was in a boot during our Disney vacation, so I'll share my advice. I don't know the exact type of device you have, but my boot was heavy! I decided to
rent a wheelchair since walking in the parks all day would have exhausted me. You might consider doing the same or even renting an
electric scooter. These are available on a first-come basis at all theme park entrances.
When I visited, I didn't bring any medical documentation about my injury or diagnosis. Security personnel typically won't look at that due to privacy concerns, but I double-checked with a helpful Cast Member who confirmed that you don't need to bring anything from your doctor.
I never had to remove my boot at the security checkpoints. However, I was scanned separately with a wand, similar to the procedure at airport security. You'll probably be asked to do the same, so I recommend allowing yourself a few extra minutes to pass through when planning your day.
Remember that some attractions might be challenging to maneuver with your boot since it could limit flexibility.
Space Mountain comes to mind as a ride vehicle you might find difficult to get in and out of. My tip is to ask Cast Members at ride entrances for their recommendations. You can also review the
Services for Guests with Mobility Needs to help prepare.
I had a blast on my trip in a boot, and I'm wishing on a star you do the same. We even enjoyed some experiences we don't always take the time to do. For example, I highly recommend the new
Country Bear Musical Jamboree at Magic Kingdom Park. Those critters love "boot stomping!"
Chip, have a fabulous vacation, and please stop by
planDisney anytime!
Magic awaits,
Elaine
