I'm visiting WDW in August with my husband and son. We have already booked the dining plan but do we really need to make reservations before we arrive? If so, how can we do this from the UK?

Yes, if you want to eat at table service restaurants during your stay, you really do need to make reservations in advance. If you want to eat at a character meal or a signature dining restaurant, you need to make reservations several (up to six) months in advance.

The dining plan is a great money saver for many people, but the reality is that with dining plan, many more people are reserving table service meals at WDW. Particularly if you are coming during a busy time, such as the summer or a holiday week, you may be shut out of your dining preferences if you don't have advance reservations.

I am not familiar with UK travel planning (nor, I believe is anyone else on the Panel). There may be a travel agent that could help you with meal reservations from home. But what we do in the US is make all our dining reservations by phone; there is no way for an individual to make meal reservations online. The telephone number here is 407-939-3463. (You would have to add relevant country codes, etc. )

If you were organized with your planning, you could probably book all the meals for your trip in one 10 to 15 minute phone call. This minimal investment of time and expense will go a long way to making your vacation happier.
