Ahoy, Kathryn!
I know ALL about escaping the cold Midwestern winters on a Disney Cruise Line vacation! There is nothing better than getting out of the snowy awfulness to a Bahamian island.
Our family has cruised to Nassau and Castaway Cay in January and February on four separate occasions. The weather was a little different each time.
On our first cruise, our day at Castaway Cay was slightly overcast and windy. It was warm enough for shorts, and once the clouds cleared a bit, we did go into the crystal clear ocean for a bit. It was a little chilly in the water, but once we got used to it, we had a SPLASH-tacular time!
One year later, we found ourselves on the Disney Magic, cruising again to Castaway Cay. We had Castaway Ray's Stingray Adventure booked for our party of eight early in the day. We stood in the water up to our knees to interact with the stingrays. The water was COLD! While it was very sunny, we wandered on the beach in our swimsuits with sweatshirts on. Our kids enjoyed playing in the sand, building sand castles, and I enjoyed laying in the sun on my beach chair.
Two years later, we once again visited Castaway Cay in January on the DVC Member Cruise. The weather was perfect! We spent the day floating in the beautiful water at Serenity Bay. And, last February the weather was ideal for splashing, sunning, and sleeping!
As you can see, the early winter weather is unpredictable! If you are looking to experience something truly breathtaking, consider trying the Parasailing at Castaway Cay. It is one of the most memorable experiences we have had while visiting Disney's Private Island Paradise. It is the absolute BEST way to see the Disney Dream.
I hope you have a wonderful time sailing on the Disney Dream!
Happy Cruising, Tracy V.
