Chris,
Thanks for asking your question to planDisney!
Usually, I take my workouts at Walt Disney World by walking around the
EPCOT World Showcase and snacking along the way. It is definitely impacting my waistline, but not in the way a workout normally should!
I checked with Disney to confirm this, and the policy for gyms is the same as it is for the resort pools. They are reserved only for guests staying at that particular resort hotel. Now I don't know if you are a
Disney Vacation Club (DVC) member or not, and if a DVC contract would allow for that, but for a standard guest stay, the answer is, unfortunately, no.
I did make a quick tour of the gym at
Disney's Old Key West Resort, and for a small gym, it is not bad! The equipment was in very good shape, and it was the same Life Fitness brand that they use at my gym at home, so I know it is of good quality. There is the expected array of treadmills and fixed-weight machines, but I was pleased to also find a recumbent bike machine and a stair machine. There were several elliptical stations as well. The free weight options were limited, with just a few racks of barbells.
Of course, I would guess that this is not the answer you were hoping for, but better to know and plan accordingly. I do also suggest that when you are checking in to your hotel, ask the front desk if they can call over and ask if you could use that gym at
Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa. It can never hurt to ask, and you might be surprised by some vacation magic!
Please feel free to
write me back directly again if you have any other questions.
Have a Magical Vacation!Doug
