I'm a single mom of a 5yr old autistic boy. We are going the first week of December. I booked at A of A but I'm trying to decide if I should upgrade to a moderate or a deluxe(AK) for the space and possibly quieter and less crowded resort.

    Hi Kim,

What a great time of the year to visit the Walt Disney World Resorts! The crowds should be low as most guests will have returned from Thanksgiving or are waiting for the Christmas break to return.

Art of Animation is the newest resort. The rooms are decent size but it is a popular resort because of the family suite options. The place you will feel the crowds would be at the dining area or at the bus queue as you would at most resorts. The rest of the resort should be able to accommodate the guests visiting.

If you are looking to upgrade because of space only, I might save the money if it is just the two of you. Most single rooms are about the same size regardless of price. The big difference in price between levels is how fast you can get to a park.

If you want to upgrade, you might consider Port Orleans French Quarter which is the sister resort to Port Orleans Riverside. This resort is small and often has its own bus stop instead of combining with Riverside. The pool area is fun and they have a great place for breakfast.

Another option might be the Polynesian Resort which is on the monorail and makes traveling to Epcot and Magic Kingdom super easy. Wilderness Lodge is also off the beaten path and uses boats to travel to Magic Kingdom and buses to the other parks. You feel like you are in the Pacific Northwest.

Unless your son loves animals, I would put Animal Kingdom as an option last. While it is quiet, except for the animals, you will have longer travel times to the other parks because this resort is remote. However, it does have Boma and Jiko as restaurants and is magical.

    Wishing you a magical vacation!
