Hello, Dennis! Thanks for stopping by the Disney Parks Moms Panel with your question!
If you've visited the Most Magical Place on Earth in the past, odds are that you've stepped foot on either a
bus or
monorail, the original Disney transportation icons (oh, how I long to hEAR those sweet words, "Please stand clear of the doors," again). But at roughly 40 square miles, Walt Disney World Resort is twice the size of Manhattan! Luckily, the Imagineers have been hard at work coming up with a fun and efficient way for folks to move around this vast property.
The Disney Skyliner, which began running last fall, is a gondola system that offers bird's-eye views of Walt Disney World Resort to guests who want to travel to
EPCOT and
Disney's Hollywood Studios. The service operates from the following Resort hotels:
Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort,
Disney's Art of Animation Resort,
Disney's Pop Century Resort, and
Disney's Riviera Resort. Although I'm wary of heights, I've utilized the Skyliner several times with no issues. I especially love that many of the gondolas are adorned with iconic Disney characters (I had to wait a few extra minutes to ensure to my little guy could ride along with Stitch on our last trip)!
If you have a vacation on the horizon, keep in mind that there is currently physical distancing and reduced capacity on all Disney transportation, so you may encounter delays. We've been told that the Skyliner will only be loading one party per gondola, but the reports I've read say this procedure has not affected wait times.
Dennis, just like my favorite space ranger says, I hope you get to "reach for the sky," soon! If you have any more questions, remember, you've got a friend in me!
