Oh my Disney, Michelle! I'm so excited to help you plan your very first
run-cation! I assure you that this won't be your last, as you will surely get bitten by the runDisney bug!
The
Disney Princess Half Marathon is my very favorite race, and I'm proud to say I've completed it several years in a row (remember what I said about that runDisney bug?). Having an emergency during a race may be the last thing you want to happen, but you are smart to take Scar's advice to "Be prepared!" I looked up the
runDisney Race Policies, and while baby carriers and baby backpacks are listed under prohibited items, I saw no mention of personal backpacks, so I think this will be perfectly fine. I always see runners on the course with hydration packs, which are similar in size to a small backpack. Just keep in mind that you don't want to weigh yourself down too much; I like running with my Nike Run Waist Pack (which is a glorified fanny pack). If you want more information on runDisney's policies and procedures, you can give them a call at (407) 939-4786.
Besides your asthma medication, I have a few suggestions for what to take to the race. Road ID is a wearable ID tag that was recommended by my Moms Panelist friend,
Kate. I wear their shoe tag that is engraved with essential information. I also recommend bringing your insurance card, just because it's better to be safe than sorry. Since it can be cold in the corrals at 4:00 AM, I usually bring along an old sweatshirt to toss (although last year's temperatures were unseasonably warm). Lastly, I always carry a small amount of cash, just in case I want a pre-race caffeine fix (they usually have food trucks in the
Epcot parking lot just before you get to the corrals). Rest assured, that runDisney races are very well organized, with medical tents set up every couple of miles on the course, so you're in good hands. All you have to do is run, sweat, smile, repeat!
If you have any more questions before the Disney Princess Half Marathon Michelle, please feel free to write back. I hope to see you out there on race day. You've got this!
