I'm planning a trip with my friends soon to mark how far we've all come, from not so good financials to being able to afford a deluxe resort for a night or two- any suggestions on some must-do's while we're there?

Hi Krysten, welcome to planDisney! I’m thrilled to help with your celebratory friends trip. This topic is close to my heart because I remember how special it was to finally stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge after years of Value Resort Hotels and offsite lodging.

When my friends and I were on a more limited budget, we’d spend all day in the theme parks to maximize our tickets. But since you’re springing for a Deluxe Resort Hotel, I’d recommend carving out time to enjoy it! Every Disney resort hotel is unique and the theming can transport you to amazing places, like a beach resort on the French and Italian Riviera or an African safari lodge.

Here are some of my favorite activities:

Go on a Resort Bar Crawl: I love exploring the different resort hotels and that includes the lounges! If you’re on the monorail, my must-dos are Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto at the Polynesian and Enchanted Rose at the Grand Floridian, though I can’t wait to visit Wailulu Bar & Grill at the Polynesian’s new Island Tower. If you’re at the EPCOT area resorts, my must-dos are AbracadaBar and Jellyrolls on the BoardWalk (it doesn't get better than signing along to dueling pianos!).

Enjoy a Special Meal: Splurging on Signature Dining would be a great way to celebrate you and your friends! The Deluxe Resort Hotels have some of the best dining at Disney World. My favorites are California Grill at the Contemporary (which also has a great view of Happily Ever After!) and Jiko at Animal Kingdom Lodge.

Rent a Pontoon Boat: During the day, you can rent a boat from many of the Deluxe Resort Hotel marinas near Magic Kingdom and EPCOT. My friends and I had so much fun spending an afternoon exploring the waters around Magic Kingdom, even though it was our first time driving a motorized boat. You can also bring snacks and non-alcoholic drinks onboard!

Embark on a Fireworks Cruise: If lounging in a boat is more your speed, then leave the driving to a Cast Member! They’ll pick you up at select Deluxe Resort Hotel marinas for a special and intimate way to see the nighttime spectaculars at Magic Kingdom or EPCOT.

Go on a Nighttime Safari: For a more adventurous evening jaunt, board a safari vehicle on Animal Kingdom Lodge’s Starlight Safari for an unforgettable ride! You’ll explore the savannas by moonlight and look for wildlife using night vision devices.

I hope this gives you some ideas for a most magical trip with your friends!
