I´m planning on proposing to my girlfriend on our upcoming trip to Disneyland. What is the most discreet way for letting the security staff know that I´m carrying the ring while going through the checkpoint?

Hello Victor, and welcome to planDisney! Golly, the Disneyland Resort is the perfect setting for a fairytale moment as important as proposing. You have a friend in me to help with your question – I visit the parks often and have gone through the security area countless times!

At the security checkpoint, you'll give your bag to the Cast Member to search through. Once they are done, you'll walk through the metal detector and collect your bag. You might want to bring a backpack of your own and put the ring box in there. I imagine the Cast Member would be discreet when they see it. Perhaps you can even put a sticky note on top to give them an extra heads-up. After they are done checking your bag, you'll walk through the metal detector and collect your backpack on the other side.

I think it would be smoothest if your girlfriend went first. That way, she'd be on the other side of the metal detector when the Cast Member goes through your backpack. The added benefit of bringing a backpack is that you can store snacks, souvenirs, portable chargers, and anything else you might need during the trip. Maybe some tissues in case there are happy tears! Just make sure you don't have anything on the list of prohibited items so there aren't any issues.

Have you decided on a proposal location yet? Here are some ideas:

    • The most iconic spot to propose, and I've seen it myself, is in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle. Just know that this is a high-traffic area, so other Guests will likely be watching and cheering you on.
    • For somewhere a little quieter, consider Snow White’s Grotto, which is at the side of the castle. There is a tranquil waterfall with sculptures and a wishing well.
    • Another option is the Storybook Land Canal Boats, which is especially romantic at night when the boat travels under a canopy of lights. You'll be seated with other Guests, though.
    • You can't go wrong with the classic dinner proposal. If you go that route, try to make a reservation in advance.
    • World of Color could be another romantic setting to propose, especially with the Dessert Party. It comes with a platter of treats and premium seats for the show. I just checked, and at the time of writing this, I see reservations still available for this experience.

Here's a tip: The Lightning Lane Multi-Pass allows unlimited downloads of Disney PhotoPass digital photos, so you should purchase this add-on to maximize the magic of your day. You'll enjoy shorter waits at popular attractions and be able to save photos taken at PhotoPass locations all day long.

Once you pop the question, pick up a complimentary "Happily Ever After" button for each of you. You can find them at select shops inside the parks, at City Hall on Main Street, U.S.A., or at Guest Services inside California Adventure.

Victor, I truly hope your plans come together as perfectly as a fairytale ending. Please reach out if you have any other questions. We at planDisney are always happy to help!

    Wishing you happiness,
    Kriss
