I’m planning 1st cruise with family, but the only one in my stateroom currently. If I reserve a stateroom for just me, paying double occupancy either way, would I be able to add someone later if someone wants to join?

Ahoy, Gregory! Welcome aboard planDisney! It’s a joy to have you here, and thank you for sending in this fantastic question. I am happy to help get everything shipshape and sailing smoothly for you!

Congratulations on planning your very first Disney Cruise Line adventure! That is something to celebrate! My crew and I love cruising. It is our favorite way to vacation most of the time. We like to add a little extra pixie dust by pairing our sailing with a few days at a nearby Disney Park before and after, if traveling from a Port with one near. It turns our entire trip into a magical voyage from castle to coastline!

As you discovered, staterooms are priced at double occupancy, even if you are traveling solo. When it comes to adding another Guest later, there are a few important details to keep in mind. For everyone's safety, especially during emergency procedures, each muster station has a set capacity. If your stateroom’s assigned muster station has already reached capacity, Disney may not be able to add another passenger, even if your room itself has space available.

If you booked your cruise through a Travel Agent or Disney Vacation Club, your agent will be your go-to guide to make any changes. If you booked directly with Disney Cruise Line, you can make modifications through My Reservation online. That said, for situations like this, I always recommend giving Disney a quick call. It helps ensure all your AquaDucks are in a row and your potential shipmate can hop aboard without any hiccups!

I am so excited for you, Gregory! Fair warning, Disney cruising has a way of turning first-timers into lifelong sailors. You might find yourself dreaming about your next adventure before you even disembark! If that happens, keep an eye out for the Onboard Offer during your cruise. You can book a Placeholder Reservation with a small deposit while you are still soaking up the magic at sea. You then have two years to turn that into a full sailing, often with special savings sprinkled in. It is our perfect cure for those post-cruise blues when we already have another adventure on the horizon!

Gregory, I hope you and your crew have the most magical time sailing the high seas. I hope your days are filled with sunshine, your nights with Broadway-caliber shows, and you walk away with lifelong memories of Disney magic. If more questions pop up as you plan, just sail back by. We are always happy to help!

    Bon Voyage and happy cruising!
