Im planing a birthday trip for my son. My mom wants to come celebrate the weekend of the trip but doesn't want to stay in a different room can this be done. Me and my son are gonna stay for 7 days grandma is only gonna be able to make it for 3.

Hey howdy hey, Melissia! Welcome to planDisney!

How wonderful that you're planning a special trip for your son at Walt Disney World. And it would be even more magical if his grandma can join you both for the weekend! Let's figure out how we can get these magical plans arranged for a practically perfect vacation.

Yes, you should be able to add your mom to your room reservation! How you manage those plans depends partially on the type of reservation you have: Disney Resort room-only, or a Disney vacation package.

First, I'll discuss the room-only reservation option. When you reserve a Disney Resorts Collection hotel, the base rate includes 2 adults (ages 18+) staying in the room. You are welcome to add as many guests to your Disney Resort room reservation as you like, up to the room's capacity limit. If you already have two adult guests, adding a third adult guest will incur a slight increase in the nightly rate. If this is the case, I'd recommend calling Disney Resort Reservations and requesting they edit your room reservation for just the nights she will join you.

Officially adding your mom as a registered guest in your room will allow her to use a MagicBand or the My Disney Experience app to open your resort room door. In this scenario, your mom would then purchase any individual theme park tickets she needs, for just the number of days she will be joining you.

If you will have a Disney vacation package, which is a Disney Resort room plus theme park tickets, then it's a little different. Adding your mom to your reservation will mean she also receives the same theme park tickets included in your package (and the price will increase accordingly). So for example, if you are purchasing a vacation package with 6 day park tickets included...  adding an additional guest will also mean also adding a 6 day park ticket for them.

So here's what I would do, Melissia!

First, I'd watch the Special Offers, Deals, & Discounts page. They've been running some terrific deals lately! As your January dates get closer, you may find a deal offered for your dates that would work great for your plans. Did you know you can sometimes "stack" both a room-only deal with a tickets discount deal? Some guests end up stacking deals in this way, with some of the awesome discounts that are currently being offered.

If a vacation package is what works best for you, it can't hurt to call and chat with a Cast Member at Disney Resort Reservations. You could ask what options there are for adding your mom to just a portion of your stay.

I hope this helps, and that you have an absolutely wonderful visit to Walt Disney World! I'll be sending pixie-dust your way, and please don't hesitate to reach out to us at planDisney again if we can assist with any other questions.

    Magical memories await!
