    I'm a little confused though about the airline check in service. My husband and I are traveling with my 2 1/2 year old son and will have three bags. Does my son count as a "person" in regards to having his own bag? Thanks!

    Hi Taryn,

    You're really asking an airline question, but I think I can help. In my experience, anyone for whom you've purchased a seat is given a luggage allowance. So, if you had a "lap baby" who did not have his own ticket, then the baby would not be allowed to have luggage. However, since your son is over age two, I'm assuming that he will have his own seat. If this is the case, your son will have the same baggage allotment as everyone else. 

    Airlines vary in their baggages allowances. However, when I fly with my children (who each have their own seat), they each bring their own carry-on bag as well as a "person item" (handbag, laptop case, etc.). With your family, you could bring three carry-ons and three personal items, plus whatever checked luggage your airline allows. If you have a diaper bag for your son, this could count as his "personal item" even though you will be the one that is actually carrying it.
