I'm a grandmother who wants to take 3 little boys ages 9, and 2 71/2 yr olds. If I'm going to take them out of school anyway, when is the best time of the year to avoid large crowds

    Hi, Mary Beth!

What an awesome grandmother you are to bring your three grandsons on a trip to Walt Disney World Resort! Multi-generational vacations are a real treat and a wonderful way to spend quality time together as a family. You are sure to make some very special magical memories with your grandsons!

If your vacation schedule won't be restricted to school holidays, then you'll have many more options for timing your visit. I recommend visiting anytime from October through mid-November or during the first half of May. There are many factors which influence crowd levels, but school holidays are the biggest factor by far.

The months of January and February typically have lower crowds (with the exception of the two long holiday weekends), but you'll find that several attractions will be closed due to refurbishments and it's often too chilly to enjoy the resort pools. My family particularly enjoys visiting in October and November (prior to Thanksgiving week) because of the festive atmosphere and all the magical decorations for Halloween and Christmas. In October your grandsons can experience Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party in Magic Kingdom park. My 8-year-old daughter is a big fan of the Halloween Party and loves to trick-or-treat in the park and watch Mickey's Boo to You! Parade and the Happy HalloWishes fireworks spectacular. After the first full week of November, the Christmas decorations start to appear along with some of the special seasonal events.

I hope this helps you in deciding on the timing of your visit, Mary Beth. Please let me know if I can assist you with any recommendations for resort hotels, dining or special activities!

Wishing you a magical Disney kind of day!
