Hi Daisy!
How fantastic that you are making such an effort to keep our planet healthy. I too have been trying to cut back on things like single-use plastic bags and straws, and use a reusable water bottle daily.
To the best of my knowledge, you will not be able to provide your own containers to be filled at most dining locations. For the example you gave, you will not be able to get a Dole Whip into your own container. I do have a few suggestions for you however, to reduce your consumption of plastic products.
Most disposable containers used at the Walt Disney World Resort are paper, rather than plastic. Soft drinks and water are usually served in paper cups. While plastic cutlery is used, you could bring a reusable fork and spoon to use while dining.
You can ask what type of container is used to serve items, so you can be sure to make wise choices. While a Dole Whip Float comes in a plastic glass, a
Dole Whip Cup comes in a paper bowl! There are also other frozen dessert options like the specialty cones at
Storybook Treats in Fantasyland where you could simply eat the cone and avoid any waste.
If you are staying at a
Walt Disney World Resort Hotel, you can purchase a Refillable Mug good for unlimited refills on soft drinks, coffee, and tea at any Walt Disney World Resort Hotel during your stay. While you cannot get refills inside the theme parks, you could refill it yourself with water from fountains. If you are a popcorn fan, you can purchase a popcorn bucket at the beginning of your visit. Refills can be purchased at a reduced rate during your stay. This is also a great way to snack on a budget. While both these items are plastic, when you return home you can reuse or repurpose them. Consider dining at table service locations which will mean your food is served with reusable plates and cutlery. For purchases, you can bring your own bags, or reusable bags are available for purchase at most merchandise locations.
Disney has a firm commitment to the environment and you may be interested in reading more about the many ways the Walt Disney World Resort lives out this commitment!I hope some of these ideas are helpful, Daisy, and I hope you have a magical and environmentally friendly visit to the Walt Disney World Resort!
