Hi I’m going to disneyworld in October for my birthday. And we have almost everything ready to go! But I was wondering if you can use Disney giftcards at the restaurants in the park. I was planning on using the giftcards while I’m there for food purposes.

Happy Early Birthday, Amanda! You will get to celebrate your big day during the 50th Anniversary Celebration of Walt Disney World! How exciting!

I have great news for you! You can absolutely use Disney Gift Cards to pay at restaurants on the WDW property. In fact, I am a budgeter, and I purchase Disney Gift Cards at a local store for a slight discount, and then combine them on the Disney Gift Card website. In the past, I have even purchased enough Disney Gift Cards to total the amount of what the Disney Dining Plan would cost our family and then used the cards to pay for ALL of our food.

Something that is somewhat new is mobile ordering meal on the MyDisneyExperience app. This can be done at many of the quick service locations throughout the theme parks and resorts. It is a game-changer! I am so in love with the mobile ordering system! One of the best things is the ability to preorder your meal hours in advance! One of my friends even ordered her Fresh Fruit Waffle from Sleepy Hollow in Magic Kingdom while she was DRIVING to the theme park! There is often a long wait for food around lunch time, and your arrival window could be hours in the future. Ordering in advance solves this issue.

You can even use your Disney Gift Cards to pay for mobile orders! To do this, you will open the app and select the + at the bottom of the screen. Then, “order food”, and select your arrival window at the eating location of your choice. You will then choose your food and once you get to the payment screen, you will see the option to add a Disney Gift Card (it’s the first payment method). It won’t save your gift card for your next order, so you’ll have to enter it each time.

Be sure to make a special Birthday celebration dinner for yourself. One of the best meals that I ever had at Walt Disney World was at Narcoosee’s at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.  We had a table with a view of Cinderella Castle, and the food was delicious!

I hope this helps with planning for your October vacation. Please come back to planDisney with other questions that you might have as you continue to get ready to travel!

    Happy Celebrating,
    Tracy
