I’m considering a trip to Disney World in January of 2020. Can you tell me what the weather is like and the crowd level at this time of year. Also is there a week I should avoid in the month of January. Thank you again for all your help.

Hi Tammy!  Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel.

I really like visiting Walt Disney World Resort in January.  After the hubbub of the holidays, I love escaping the ice and snow of the Midwest for some Florida sunshine!

The average high temperature in Orlando in January ranges between 65° and 75°, and the average low is between 45° and 55°, but there tends to be a rather wide fluctuation in temperatures.  I have experienced days with temperatures in the 80's and other days where I needed a winter jacket and gloves!  Usually I have found the mornings and evenings to be on the chilly side, and the afternoons to be pleasant.  The Orlando area sees little rainfall in January, so even chilly days will likely be beautiful and sunny.  In my opinion, a chilly January day in Florida beats any kind of January weather where I am from!

The busy holiday season should wrap up after the first weekend in January when families with children return home after their school breaks.  The Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend tends to be busy as well, but the rest of the month should see moderate crowds.  This year the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend takes place January 9 through 12.  You may encounter some road closures during marathon weekend, and a slight uptick in crowd levels in the parks.

I highly recommend planning your visit towards the end of the month if possible, so you will be able to visit the Epcot International Festival of the Arts which begins on January 17.  I had a great time sampling the delicious (and beautiful!) festival food while enjoying the amazing art displays.

I hope that helps!  Please stop by the Moms Panel again if you have any additional questions.  Happy planning!
