I'm considering a family of 6, all adults, going to Disney World Sunday, January 5th through departing Friday, January 10th but wonder if this will be a slow time. We have never gone to Disney in January and wonder how busy this week would be.

    Hi, Denise!

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel. Planning a visit to Walt Disney World Resort with an arrival toward the end of the first week in January is a GREAT choice! The very high New Year's crowds will be departing and you will enjoy one of the lowest crowd levels of the entire year during your stay. You'll get to see and do so much more, all without the stress of long lines for attractions and transportation. An added bonus to visiting in January are the terrific rates you'll get on your Disney resort stay - the period from January through mid-February is considered the resort "value season" which is the lowest rate season of the year for Disney resorts.

Keep in mind, however, that weekend nights (Fridays and Saturdays) are more expensive than weeknights, as are holidays (Martin Luther King Day and President's weekend). Also, the 2014 Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend is scheduled from January 2-12 and this event will have an effect on crowd levels in the parks as well as availability of resort rooms.

What this means for your family is that it's best to plan ahead - be sure to secure your resort reservation (with the room type you prefer) as soon as your travel dates are set and make advance dining reservations up to 180 days prior to your arrival date.

Your family will love visiting in January! Gone is the scorching heat and humidity of the late spring, summer and early fall seasons. The average daily temperature in January is 61 degrees, with a low of 50 and high of 72. While you'll definitely need a jacket or sweater for the cooler evenings, the daytime weather is extremely pleasant. January also doesn't see a lot of rainfall, so it's highly unlikely you'll need any rain ponchos (unless you'd like to use them for cover on Kali River Rapids or Splash Mountain!).

Please don't hesitate to write back for more suggestions or advice as you continue planning your trip.
