Ahoy, Thomas and welcome to planDisney! I'm thrilled you're considering a Disney Cruise this year! You're going to love the magic of being out at sea and the absolute beauty of
Castaway Cay. I'm still dreaming about that clear blue water!
Thanks for asking this great question about required documentation. Not all Disney Cruise itineraries require that Guests travel with a passport, but for round-trip sailings to the Bahamas, including stops at Castaway Cay, travelers must have an original valid US passport OR original state-issued birth certificate AND a physical government-issued photo ID. There are other documents that could also work in lieu of the documents I mention here, however, and these are listed on the
Disney Cruise Line website, including more details about documentation for all Disney Cruise sailings.
So, in short, it is not required to have a passport in order to travel on a Disney Cruise sailing to the Bahamas, if you have the necessary replacement documents.
That said, Thomas,
Disney does recommend that Guests carry a valid passport with them when traveling. In the unlikely event that an emergency should occur requiring a flight home from a foreign port, a passport allows for a swift journey home.
It's no wonder you have your eye on Disney's gorgeous private island in the Bahamas. With its whimsical touches, excellent service, and fun activities (Paddle boards! Water Bikes!), you'll have an amazing day at Castaway Cay (pronounced "Key"). And take the advice of my planDisney pal, Dustin, and
swing by Cookie's BBQ to make a DIY ice cream sandwich while you're there. So good!
If you have any other questions that come up in your planning,
stop by again! We're happy to help and would love to see Thomas in the Bahamas!
Have a magical day and we'll see you real soon!
