Aloha Miriam, and thanks for bringing your question to planDisney! Aulani is such an incredible and relaxing place with its mix of Hawaiian culture and Disney touches. Now, let’s talk about the lazy river, one of my favorite spots at Aulani!
Most personal inner tubes aren’t allowed in the pools, except for some infant floatation devices, like the ones with a bottom or net seat. According to
official Aulani policy, the following items are prohibited in the pools: “snorkels, fins, inner tubes without a bottom, kickboards, large flotation devices without net seats, mesh rings (except for infants), dive toys and water guns.”
But, Hakuna Matata! In my experience, there are plenty of inner tubes provided for the lazy river. Occasionally during peak times, when there weren’t any tubes available, my family either waited for other guests to finish or we came back a little later. Usually, we didn’t have to wait too long, and it can be a good excuse to grab a Mickey-shaped treat from
Papalua Shave Ice!
When all of the inner tubes are being used, I’ve found that means the lazy river is pretty full. If it seems like it’ll be a busy day, like when you're there around Christmas, I try to visit the lazy river in the morning or late afternoon for a more peaceful jaunt around the
Waikolohe Stream.
If you’d still like to bring your own floatation device, I’ve seen guests use their own inner tubes in the lagoon at the beach. You'll also need to bring a pump. I checked with Aulani Guest Services and the resort isn’t able to inflate personal flotation devices.
You picked an extra magical time to visit Aulani because the lobby is always decked out in beautiful holiday decorations in December! In past years, there’s also been singers performing seasonal songs throughout the grounds, which is a great way to get into the holiday spirit. There isn’t always a set schedule, so keep an eye out for these musical surprises! The live entertainment is one of the things that makes this resort so special.
Aulani can be as relaxing or adventurous as you’d like it to be, and there are so many activities to choose from! My favorites are Family Fun Animation and the ‘Ohana Ho’okani Pila ‘ukulele lessons. Currently, they can be booked through the Aulani website up to 45 days in advance under
Pau Hana Room Reservations. Those two activities are popular, so be sure to reserve them as soon as your booking window opens. My family absolutely loved learning to play our favorite Disney songs on the ‘ukulele!
I’m wishing you the most magical stay at Aulani this December. And if you have any other questions, we’d love to have you back at planDisney!
