Hi there, fellow photography enthusiast! Welcome to planDisney! This is a great question because it gets right to that sweet spot of planning ahead so you can stay in the moment once you’re inside the Disneyland Resort.
As of now, small tripods or “shorty” sticks are generally allowed as long as they can fit inside a standard backpack and do not extend beyond 6 feet (182 cm). However, selfie sticks and handheld extension poles are specifically listed as
prohibited items. That said, even permitted items come with an important expectation. Usage should always be courteous and never obstruct walkways or create a hazard for other guests. Security and Cast Members do have the final say, so if an area is crowded (for example, during the evening rush near “
it’s a small world” or before
Paint the Night begins), you may be asked to put equipment away.
For self-portraits, a tripod can be used briefly as long as you’re mindful of your surroundings. Quieter corners tend to work best. You might find a nice pocket along the path beside Sleeping Beauty Castle or over near
Grizzly Peak where foot traffic is lighter. Early mornings on
Buena Vista Street or a sunset along
Pixar Pier (with
Pixar Pal-A-Round glowing in the background) are also fantastic opportunities where you can set up quickly, snap your shot, and move along without disrupting others.
And of course, don’t forget about
Disney PhotoPass photographers. They’re stationed in some of the most photogenic spots, like Carthay Circle and the Partners statue, and they’re great at capturing those polished, frame-worthy shots without you needing to set anything up. You can even locate them using the search feature in the
Disneyland app (which is also handy for finding everything from attractions to your next cold brew stop).
You’re clearly putting great thought into how you’ll capture your visit, and that preparation really pays off once you’re walking down Main Street with camera in hand. If you have any additional parks photography-related questions, please visit us here again at planDisney.
I hope you have a trip filled with incredible angles, golden-hour lighting, and plenty of frame-worthy moments,
David
