    I'll be sailing on the Dream in August, and I want to run the Castaway Cay 5K. Is there a place to shower & change after running, or do people usually go back to the ship after the race? Is there any place to store a bag near the finish line? Thanks!

    Welcome back, Kelli! The Castaway Cay 5K is a really fun event held on Disney's private island most days when Disney Cruise Line's ships arrive. I ran my first Castaway Cay 5K last fall and really enjoyed the whole experience!

    Watch your Personal Navigator as there will be a note about registering for the 5K when onboard the ship. It'll tell you when to meet that morning before the race, usually onboard the ship in one of the lounges. There, you'll receive your bib number and route instructions, then walk off as a group to the starting line. 

    At the starting line, sometimes there is a large bin there to store bags, but there wasn't the last time I ran it, so you really won't know for sure. It's best if you leave a bag with your family and plan to meet up after the run so you can get the bag. On my run, a group of us just tucked our bags behind some trees near the starting line and that worked out just fine. The starting line and finish line are the same spot. Afterwards, most people just head to the beach! There are outdoor showers to rinse off near the bathrooms, but not private shower spaces. I just changed into my swimsuit and cover up in the bathroom then headed straight to the beach. I never found a reason to shower, as it was hot and I was ready to get in the ocean anyway, so I wouldn't have stayed clean for long! If you do want to shower in the privacy of your stateroom, you're welcome to head back to the ship at any point throughout the day on Castaway Cay.

    Be sure to check out the gift shops on the island. There is one called Buy The Seashore that is close to the start and finish line of the run, and they sell cute Castaway Cay 5K shirts. I think that's a must after completing your first 5K in the Bahamas, don't you?
