Ideals on best signature dining options for a family of five, 2 of my kids have autism but behave pretty well when we go out. Staying at the contemp but was worried that the calif would be too fancy and the kids would be out of place. Any ideals?

    Hi Tara,

You should know that your children will be welcome at any of Disney's signature restaurants, regardless of any medical issues they might have. Disney does a wonderful job of accommodating guests with all manner of challenges.

I have taken my three daughters to Walt Disney World signature dining experiences dozens of times over the years, beginning when they were toddlers. My personal feeling is that you should choose your restaurants based on the food you're interested in eating rather than style of the decor. Menus for and reviews of the Disney restaurants are readily available online at disneyworld.com, allears.net, and disneyfoodblog.com.

Bearing that in mind, I'll tell you that my family's favorite signature restaurant is Artist Point at the Wilderness Lodge. The room feels like an Arts and Crafts home, with warm wood and autumnal colors on the fabrics. It feels a bit less modern and glassy than the California Grill does. Artist Point features cedar plank salmon, apple crisp and other American classics, but with an gourmet twist. We also enjoy Jiko, in the Animal Kingdom Lodge. The decor here is also warm and woody, with the added benefit that you can stop by the animal viewing areas on your way to your meal.

Good luck with your planning and please let us know if you have additional questions.
