What is the "ideal" amount of time to book for a family of 4. Our kids ages are 5 and 3. We want to come in Sept. for our girl's 6th birthday. However, her birthday is in the middle of a week and we already have to take time off from kindergarten

Hi, Catherine!  It's so hard for me to predict what the ideal amount of time to visit Walt Disney World might be for your family, as each family is different.  The ideal amount of time could vary based on how much you want to accomplish or what your family's priorities are.

I like to tell friends who are going for the first time with a tight schedule to allow one day for each of the four major theme parks, and if they can swing one extra day, plan on five days with hopper passes.  On the last day, you can visit the things you missed in all of the parks or head back to do the attractions that you really loved all over again.  I also don't recommend trying to squeeze in the water parks or other activities if you only have a short amount of time.  Four days will get you a good overview of each of the main parks, but you can really wear yourself out if you are trying to squeeze in a waterpark as well.

If you can build your visit around a weekend - perhaps taking only one or two days off from school, adding in Saturday and Sunday or a holiday.  The public schools in my area have two days off in September for the Jewish holidays of Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashanah.  You might check your school calendar to see if you have the same days!

    Have a wonderful vacation!
