Jill,
If there is anything certain, it is that nobody agrees on this topic. Many feel that the Animal Kingdom is a half-day park, in that it seems to have fewer attractions than Hollywood Studios. My family, however, far prefers the Animal Kingdom.
Here is what I use as a simple decision making matrix;
- If your son is really into Disney Junior and Pixar movie characters, then go to the Hollywood Studios
- If your son is a zoo fanatic, then choose the Animal Kingdom.
So the Hollywood Studios has some very character specific fun, including not just the two categories I mentioned, but also a very good Muppets show, and more character greeting experiences. The Animal Kingdom has the edge on providing some wonderfully themed animal viewing experiences, as well as some playground areas that could keep him busy for hours. Finally, if food is an important decision maker, then probably the greater selection and variety at the Hollywood Studios would appeal to you. Also, if you opt for the Animal Kingdom, plan something for the evening elsewhere, as the park does not have much to offer after around 5 pm.
That is a lot of info, but not a lot of guidance. So here it is;
BOTTOM LINE: While my family prefers the Animal Kingdom, I would suggest that unless that second bullet point about the zoo interest applies, you might find more in general for the whole family at the Hollywood Studios. Know this, however: wherever you go, you will have a great time!
Have a magical vacation!
