My husband and I are taking our 10 year old Daughter in September. I'm afraid she'll be bored without a friend or someone to ride rides with while we're there. Any suggestions?

    Hi Pam,

I've taken each of my daughters to WDW alone. I truly enjoyed this special bonding time, and I think they did too. All the rides and attractions at Walt Disney World are designed for families to enjoy together. You can, and should, be going on the rides with her. I've found that my kids love seeing me scream on the Tower of Terror even more than I like going on the ride myself.

That being said, you can find some opportunities for her to interact with other kids. Disney does have group child care centers at many of the hotels (you don't have to stay there to use the facilities). They offer crafts, games, and movies. You could leave your daughter there one evening. This would give you and your hubby to have a break for date night and it would allow your daughter some time to interact with other kids.

My children have also made friends their own age many times by our hotel pool. It helps if you have a small ball, frisbee or something similar. Start having a catch and my guess is that you'll have other kids join you in no time.

I'm also going to take the opportunity here to put in a plug for Adventures by Disney. This another arm of the Disney travel company which offers tours all over the world. It is a PERFECT vacation situation for parents of single children. You're touring as a family, but there are always other kids to hang out with. Similar situations exist on the Disney cruise, where kids make friends quickly at their age-appropriate hang outs. I urge you to consider these options as well when you're planning future vacation.
