My husband and I are taking our first trip to WDW with our 3 children (10, 8 and 2). We did not have the dining plan. Can the 10 year old order from the kids menu? At most restaurants, she will not eat what is on the adult menu.

Hi Michelle! How exciting to be planning your first family trip to Disney World! My eleven-year-old son loves that Disney calls him an "adult," but he doesn't want any part of the food on the adult menus! Thankfully, your ten-year-old is welcome to order her meals from the kids' menu if nothing on the adult menu appeals to her.  (Even adults are allowed to order from the children's menu if they wish.) The restaurants at Disney World are very kid-friendly and eager to please.  Even if your children's favorite meal doesn't appear on the kids' menu, they can often request and receive it, so don't hesitate to ask for the foods that they like best.

Of course, if you dine at fixed-price meals such as a buffet or a dinner show, you will be charged the adult price for your ten-year-old, even if she only eats a kids' meal. For instance, at 'Ohana my picky son is allowed to order a grilled cheese and french fries instead of the all-you-care-to-eat family-style meal served there, but we still pay the full adult fixed price for him.

I hope you have a magical vacation! Don't forget to request "First Visit" buttons at Guest Services! Come visit us again at the Moms Panel if you have more questions! We'd love to help!
